Adding MemoTrainer sites to Trusted Sites

This document describes how to add sites to the trusted sites of your browser. This document applies to Internet Explorer 5.0 and higher.

Why should I add MemoTrainer to Trusted Sites?

The MemoTrainer application uses session cookies to keep track of logged-in users. Session cookies are small text files that the application sends to the internet browser of a user. Along with every request for a new page, the content of this session cookie (which is unintelligible to humans) is sent to the application. The application uses this information to determine whether you are logged in, and if so, who you are.

Browsers can be configured to refuse session cookies, which means that the browser does not send back the data of the session cookie when you try to get the next page. As the application cannot determine whether you are a legitimate user or not, you have to log in again and again for every page you want to see. This can be a very annoying situation.

Some people see cookies as a major threat to their privacy. This is true to some extent, since so called permanent cookies remain on your computer even after you close your browser. Every time you revisit the site, the data is sent back to the server and by doing so the owners of a site can learn more about the behaviour of their visitors. This is not the case for session cookies.

Unfortunately browsers can be configured to refuse session cookies despite their usefulness to the visitor of a site. We advise people to at least accept session cookies in general. But if you want to be able to refuse session cookies and still be able to use a MemoTrainer site, there is an alternative: make the MemoTrainer sites trusted sites. Trusted sites are sites with lower security settings. By doing so, you don't have to log in for every page, while still being able to refuse session cookies in general.

How to make this site a Trusted Site?

  1. First open Internet Options:

  2. Then choose the security tab and click on Trusted sites.

  3. Click on the button Sites to open a dialog to manage the trusted sites of your browser.

By typing *.memotrainer.nl and *.memotrainer.com and pressing the Addbutton after each domain name, you add MemoTrainer to the trusted sites. Make sure that the https verification is unchecked (see above). Press Ok to change the trusted site settings.

  4. In some cases this is not sufficient. Some MemoTrainer sites do not use the memotrainer domain name, but use another one. You can get this name by clicking on a page with your right mouse button and choosing properties (lowest option). You can find the appropriate domain name between http:// and the next / (in this case www.examentrainer.nl). Add this domain to the trusted sites as described above.
